Bordierhütte - Ulrichshorn (Descent WNW Face) - Balfirn - Huteggen
Amazing traverse that offered everything even though the weather forecast was not very promising. Nice view from the Ulrichshorn with great descent on the face. Later, we arrived at the Balfirn in bad weather (very cloudy, slight snowfall) but after waiting some time, we had enough visibility to do the very long descent towards the Saas-valley. That descent until Färich was really great in terms of snow, steepness and landscape. Unfortunately, the recent storm cut the power supply of the Schweiben cable-car, so we had to descent the quite annoying summer trail down to Huteggen, where many fallen trees blocked the path.
Ascend Ulrichshorn: Easy, the crevasse-zone ca. at 3300m is completely covered and we skinned up to the summit without ski crampons. Descent WNW - Face: Nice powder / old windslab. Reascend Balfirn: The face is well snow covered (but icy) and several options seemed feasible. We skinned completely up on ski crampons. Descend Balfirn - Huteggen: Nice powder / old windslab which transformed into spring slush further down. Crevasse zones posed no issues. Descent on skis possible until Färich. Afterwards, kind-off annoying descent on snow-covered summer trail with many fallen trees down to Huteggen.
Mix of sun, high-level clouds, fog, snow warm when there was sun Slight wind in exposed parts
