Allalinhorn: From Britanniahütte via Hohlaubgrat
In my opinion, this is maybe the most interesting tour from the Britannia in terms of skiing (probably on-par with some variant from the Rimpfischhorn-gendarm), mainly because there is no looong flat glacier part. We didn't really care that we didn't summit as our main objective, great skiing at this time of the year, was certainly attained!
Nice also to do things in this area completely alone. The few other people at the hut went into other directions.
Britannia to shoulder P3836: Hard-packed during the ascend (frozen further down and wind-blown higher up) but was no problem with ski-crampons. The descent around 11h was really nice as the wind-blown parts were well edgeable and the crusty parts softened up. Shoulder P3836 to the rock barrier (ca. 3970): Boot-packing on the thinning ridge. I brought my skis up, the others left them at the shoulder. There is really not much space for manipulations at the rock barrier. A few quite nice turns with a good amount of exposure. The ski-rating of the route (3.2) does certainly not take into account skiing this part. Rock barrier to summit: After the first few meters on mixed terrain, the rest is nearly completely snow covered. When we were there at 9h30, the snow already softened too much (E exposed). It did not seem safe for us as it would have meant to descend steeply on this very soft snow on the way back from the summit, even though the problematic part was only ca. 15m long. Descent to Saas-Fee: quite nice on snow rests down to 2200m
Overall not too warm/cold during the ascend. Obviously very warm when returning too Saas-Fee. Bit windy higher up, but not really annoying. In general clear but very hazy due to the wildfire dust
Britannia winter room is well equipped, but there's no toilet access, wtf? 10 people that night (full).
