Bortelhorn: NW-flanc (not finished)

We wanted to explore the NW-flanc of the Bortelhorn. We thought already before that it may be out of reach in terms of snow conditions but we said let´s see. Accessing the flanc is a bit more difficult right now (lack of snow) but we managed at ca. 2800m. On the flanc, the snow was hard-packed and quite many rocks were visible. Also the wind was pretty annoying and the summit was getting into clouds. So we abandoned that plan and went to the ski-depot to have a direct descent in amazing snow.

We will come back another time to ski the NW-flanc, it looks amazing.

Hard-packed snow on the short part of the NW-flanc we´ve made. Amazing skiing in untraced snow between the ski depot and the Bortelhut. A bit difficult below the Bortelhut with frozen traces between the bushes.

The higher part of the NW-flanc looked very hard-packed and somewhat rocky. The SW ridge (normal route) is untraced and may be quite difficult with the loose snow right now.

Sunny, quite windy towards the top, felt quite cold.
