Dôme du Goûter : Arête N (par les Grands Mulets)
2nd time skiing mt Blanc in May compared to April... much much warmer 0C at hut at 3h00 compared to -20C in April. More open crevasses, more tricky sections, northface looked pisted, last time we were the only pair on the NF. A very long outing even split into two days.... doing it all in one push is crazy ... (but I am 61yrs old) ... Long ski down in wet heavy snow was exhausting rather than fun (it was fun in April 2024).
Conditions above the grand Mullets are still quite good. But it is a long hot and wet flog to get to the refuge.
to refuge 10h30 - 16 to summit 03h30 - 9h30 to parking 10H00 - 16H00
HOT - blue sky - low wind
Good classic hut with toilet 200m deep. busy bust busy You need to carry your skis almost all of the way to the top of the old telecabine - 2hrs for old folks access across the 'junction' of the glacier is good until last short section ... there are THREE 2m posts showing the way ... one part you enter the old dirty ice of the glacier for 10-20m ... take care of the soft snow covering crevasses
